Taxes and Fees
By Stanley Bryant Chief Correspondant
One of the most important reasons we declared our independence from King George (England) was taxation without representation. This is why we have Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution ascribes to Congress the sole “Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises” on the American people, to borrow money on the credit of the United States; and to regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states and tribes.
Lately, presidents have used used various departments to add fees which amount to new taxes. The EPA (hundreds of new regulations and new fees), the FDA (new drug, food and user fees) and the FCC (new fees to pay for high sees Internet) are assessing new taxes despised as fees on the American people and businesses.
When are we going to tell the government enough is enough and stop the spending.
